- The 3rd Annual Pinellas Living Green Expo Wrap-Up
-
The 2008 Pinellas Living Green Expo was held at Harborview Center in Clearwater on May 3rd and 4th. The Expo is an environmental education event for sharing ideas, resources and information that promote sustainable living through energy and water efficiency, renewable energy, and environmental resource conservation. The event is organized by a community based steering committee made up of representatives from local governments, businesses, neighborhood associations, environmental groups and interested citizens. In May, more than 100 exhibitors displayed products, services and information related to more sustainable living in Pinellas County. In addition, seminars covering 29 different topics were presented throughout the day on both Saturday and Sunday. The Expo was an outstanding success, reflecting the public's increased interest in energy saving products and more sustainable living strategies. Six thousand visitors participated in the Expo and virtually all of the exhibitors indicated said they believed they were able to reach their target audiences. Each year, the Expo has been getting larger as more exhibitors and more visitors participate. This year, vendor space sold out several weeks before the event. All of the exhibits were reviewed in advance to insure that they met specific criteria for being green. By screening the potential exhibits in advance, the Expo has maintained consistency and relevance. This was the first time the Expo was held in Clearwater. In 2006 and 2007, the Expo was held at the Coliseum in St. Petersburg. Each year the event has grown larger as more exhibitors and more visitors become interested in sustainability. The 2009 Expo will also be held at the Harborview Center in Clearwater. Many of the 2008 exhibitors already signed up for the 2009 Expo. (A good idea because the 2009 Expo well probably be sold out also) Exhibitor applications are now available online at http://pinellaslivinggreenexpo.org.
