Mission & Goals

Mission

The mission for Tampa Bay Living Green, Inc. is to build and serve a grassroots, collaborative local effort to achieve tangible improvements in sustainability with special focus on improving environmental conditions through cumulative local actions in the Tampa Bay area.

Through local grass-roots efforts, the organization is working to create a world for future generations in which:

  • Business operations and products are redesigned to interface benignly with the natural world
  • Environmental values are integrated into economic and social systems and into people’s lives
  • Healthy ecosystems and sustainable communities exist

Goals

  • Inform and educate people who value a healthy environment about the environmental and social impacts of day-to-day living and the concepts of sustainability, increasing the number of Pinellas County residents who adopt green living practices and targeting more mainstream audiences and young people to adopt green living practices.

  • Provide a positive networking opportunity for Pinellas County around issues of sustainability to connect those people and businesses working to bring sustainability into the mainstream.

  • Build the market for small, local businesses and organizations providing environmentally preferable products, services and educational approaches, and also build the market for the more environmentally preferable products from larger businesses, encouraging these and other businesses to increasingly incorporate environmental and social concerns into their products and operations.

  • Emphasize high-impact products and practices in the areas of food, energy, transportation and housing while showing the breadth of the sustainable marketplace. Showcase products, services and educational approaches that go beyond decreasing individual environmental impacts and strive to be ecologically sound, economically viable, socially just and humane.

  • Collaborate with local businesses, governments, community groups and residents to find innovative, economically viable approaches to issues of sustainability and environmental protection.

  • Create and maintain an open, inclusive process that builds commitment and support for community-based approaches to issues of sustainability.

  • Develop measurements and feed-back systems to document progress and accomplishments
